It might seem dispensable for a traditionalist, even one claiming new and novel ideas about traditionalist thought (although claiming such is simple self-flattery, not factual), to write about the election of a new political leader.
I, F. Faustus, am of course referring to the election of Donald Trump as president of the United States of America. Now I do not intend to comment much on his character or policies. I prefer to stay away from current political discussions or to even follow day-to-day politics, as I find them both deranged and stale. It is however impossible and foolish to ignore major political shifts and their global implications.
With the election of Trump, we are seeing an unravelling of the current global order and political landscape. Joe Biden and Kamala Harris were establishment politicians through and through and lived, and died, on that hill. Donald Trump was elected to, and will no doubt succeed in, bulldozing that hill. Clearly, he will replace that hill with a thoroughly corrupt and un-democratic machine of his own.
No matter how distasteful and grotesque his character is, there is no denying the fact that he is willing to change things.
It will be a chaotic process, no doubt causing much domestic strife and suffering. We will witness the unravelling of the United States, and this will of course have global implications as well. While I had little faith in Biden or Harris building a better future for our planet, they were to some extent willing to use state machinery for some progressive means. And willing to use military might to maintain a peaceful global order. And they were, at least, willing to pay lip service to the ecological strife facing us and willing to spend resources to combat, however ineffectively, this quickly accelerating disaster.
They were also in the service of massive stores of capital willing to use industrial production and machinery to strip the earth of resources, exploit humanity and bring ecological collapse upon us. They were unable to fathom any other system than that and were only willing to part with a small part of the wealth created to stave off strife.
Donald Trump is of course, the same, but also different. For one, he is an agent of chaos. He is willing to destroy, dismantle and shatter. Do not fret, this is precisely what he was elected for and the secret to his success. People intuitively understand our system is coming to an end and vote accordingly. No matter how distasteful and grotesque his character is, there is no denying the fact that he is willing to change things.
He is, however, also in the service of massive stores of capital willing to use their machinery for destruction. Perhaps even more so. He is also unwilling to use one penny of this wealth on anything that will slow it down. He is the architect of collapse. This also is what makes him so appealing to voters. This is what people want. Or believe they want. I am sure there will be plenty of faces for the leopards to eat.
I have distain for both the left and the right. Both are a tool of industrialism, willing to churn the good Earth and extract wealth for the machinery
When, at the end of it all, we look back at this time in human history, it will be clear that this is the point where things started going wrong again. Much like the belle epoque at the end of the 19th century, the beginning of the 21st has been a golden age for most, although obviously not for all. It was similarly a time of massive industrial expansion and growth, and this will all come crashing down in an apocalypse we can all see coming.
As I have explained before, I have distain for both the left and the right. Both are a tool of industrialism, willing to churn the good Earth and extract wealth for the machinery. They are forever locked in a struggle over that wealth, with the left distributing some of it to the workers, the right keeping it for themselves. Forever marching towards destruction for all.
What will a Trump presidency lead to, other than what I have already mentioned? Globally, it will embolden Russia. Vladimir Putin has a strange hold on Trump and will exploit it to the fullest. An unwilling Europe will be on its own against a destructive Russia and Ukraine will lose the war.
The Baltics will be next on the menu, with an unknown outcome. Finland and Poland will be under pressure. Taiwan and Japan will also feel the might of China’s growing might.
The Middle East will explode in violence, with the Palestinians being finally wiped out in an act of destruction, it will be written about for generations. War will reign and people will die.
After the belle epoque, humanity faced two great wars. I doubt we can survive a third one. The situation we will face will probably resemble that at the end of the Roman era, when the skies darkened and caused years of hunger and pain.
Economically, Trump will probably overheat the US economy, and this will in turn lead to economic strife. With a globalized economy as it is, it will have major global effects.
Ecologically, it will mean an utter disregard for climate change and the ecological strife we face. We will probably see large scale famines in the next few years. Although, this we would have faced with a Harris administration as well. In fact, I believe a Trump, or equivalent, was only a matter of time. Change would have been sought after again and again and with the political machinery in the US unable to produce anything but status quo politicians, or radical fascist thought, it was only a matter of time.
After the belle epoque, humanity faced two great wars. I doubt we can survive a third one. The situation we will face will probably resemble that at the end of the Roman era, when the skies darkened and caused years of hunger and pain.
Where does that leave us? We must turn to ourselves to weather the coming storms. Build societies that are stronger, more resilient and prepared. We must look to build strong institutions that can withstand the whims of political change and the whims of democracy. And we must return to the land. Not as individuals, but as a society, willing to work the earth with our hands and minds to rebuild the ecological plurality and vitality of the land. This will require society to understand the importance of these things and that is why I write.
